# How You Find Out a Client's Profile Was Suspended

Published: 2026-10-01

Most agencies find out a client's Google Business Profile was suspended when the
client calls. As of September 2026 no standard alert tells the agency. Whatever
notice Google sends goes to the accounts on the profile, and some owners in our
corpus say they saw no warning at all. On **10 July 2026** a practitioner put it
to r/localseo. A client's profile had been down for four days before they heard
about it, and they heard from the client: "Angry call, 'why are we invisible on
Maps', the whole thing." They asked how anyone else handles it. The honest
answer is that the agency has to set up its own check.

## July 2026 Was a Wave, and Wave Months Hit Agencies Hardest

The poster mentioned "the suspension wave people keep posting about lately".
Our corpus shows it. There were 18 suspension threads in July 2026 against an
average of about 4.5 a month over the other twelve months. Our collection is not
an even sample over time, so read that as a spike, not a precise multiple. It
lines up with what practitioners reported at the time:

> Have had 8 Clients GBPs suspended overnight last few days… thought we had
> finally worked out a system
>
> — r/GoogleMyBusiness, July 2026

In June 2026 another manager described three client profiles in a row going to
video verification and then suspension after ordinary edits to their business
information. When suspensions come in batches, an agency with 30 profiles finds
out one angry call at a time.

## "Suspended", "Gone" and "Filtered" Look the Same From the Client's Phone

To a client, all of these read as "we're invisible on Maps". They are different
problems:

```
  WHAT YOU SEE                                    WHAT IT IS
  dashboard shows a suspension notice      →      suspended — appeal or re-verify
  missing from search AND the dashboard    →      removed — access or ownership issue
  verified, visible for its own name,      →      filtered — ranking problem,
  missing for category terms                      not a suspension
```

The third one catches people out. In July 2026 an owner reported a reinstated
profile with a blue check, "no warnings, no errors, reviews intact", visible for
its own name, and gone for broad terms. In August 2026 another said two profiles
"disappeared completely, not suspended, not merged", with "nothing in any of our
dashboards". Each one needs a different fix, and it helps to know which you
have before the client calls.

## Three Checks That Tell You First

The poster's own fix, a script that checks profiles and pings them when one
disappears, is the right idea. It doesn't need to be custom code:

1. **Be a manager on every client profile** under an agency account, not only
   the client's login. Whatever Google sends in the dashboard or by email then
   reaches you as well.
2. **Check each profile daily for its own name.** If a business can't be found
   for its exact name, something is wrong, whatever the dashboard says.
3. **Run a scheduled geo-grid on one money term.** A suspended or removed
   profile drops out of every cell at once. That looks very different from a
   ranking slide, which fades cell by cell. See
   [daily vs periodic map rank tracking](/blog/daily-vs-periodic-map-rank-tracking)
   for how often to check.

## When the Alert Fires

1. **Name the state first**: suspended, removed or filtered, using the table
   above. See [suspension vs a ranking drop](/blog/suspension-vs-ranking-drop).
2. **Tell the client before they tell you.** The four-day gap in the thread
   was not the suspension. It was the silence before anyone told the client.
3. **Undo the last edit only if it caused the problem.** Several of the June
   and July cases started with changes to name, address, category or business
   information.
4. **Record the dates**: when it went down, when you noticed, when it came
   back. That timeline goes into the appeal and into the client report.
5. **After reinstatement, re-grid.** Reviews and rankings don't always come back
   together. For what a normal ranking looks like, go back to
   [still not in the map pack top 3](/blog/still-not-in-the-map-pack-top-3).
